I was approached by Josh Gonzales, business owner of both Thunderbird and his latest project, Jailbird.

6 months prior to the grand opening of the bar/restaurant, we started the project prior to knowing what the space is going to look like. Both of us just know that we want to deliver an unique, yet affordable bar and dining experience to Indianapolis, IN.

After finding out the dimension of the wall, I started with blocking illustration to help me find the visual balance and understand my limits.

After finding out the dimension of the wall, I started with blocking illustration to help me find the visual balance and understand my limits.

I started to implement animal characters after the blocking process is done. This helps me explore the mood for the illustration, nail down characters’ expressions, and also help me save A LOT of time during the process of digitalizing them.

Brought the sketch into iPad Pro Procreate and started cleaning up the lines. This is still a discovery process for me at this time, so I did not go too crazy with the details yet.

Knowing the mural painter, Emily’s ability  (Bootleg Sign Co.) , I went ‘HAM’ and gave the design a final push with all the details. Everything was finalized and vectorized in Illustrator before delivering the design to Emily.
